1SepBlog update!
Posted on September 1, 2010 in Personal byIf you are re-visiting, you may have noticed. I've updated my blog! I've did quite some design, as well as technical changes. And I'm also planning to actually start writing some nice new articles for you guys (and perhaps gals).
A changed look?
Though the color scheme hasn't really changed, I've made quite some adjustments to the design. My idea was to create a more peaceful and relaxed layout. In my opinion (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) it was just a little too crowded with all the uppercase and bold texts. Hopefully it won't stress your eyes so much now.
I have also switched from 1,2 and 3 columns to just 2 columns everywhere. And next to that I have also removed quite some useless items that just took up space. With all these changes I find that my blog actually looks more like a 'blog'. Of course I hope everyone agrees on that ;-)
Technical stuff
I've also taken the time to change some of the technical elements on the site. I guess the biggest change mentioning is the one where I switched from tt_news to t3blog.
The t3blog extension provides tons of nice features that can be used on a blog, as well as a very flexible way of displaying them. Though configuring everything to my needs and wishes took quite some time, I'm very pleased with the output. Next to the fact that it saves me in writing new modules, it also makes posting new articles a lot quicker and easier
The next 'big' change is switching from code highlighting plugin again. The previous one was already created by me, and implemented code highlighting inside the RTE. The problem was that RTE rendering process sometimes broke the output that it was supposed to give.
The t3blog extension allows us to create multiple content elements inside a blog post. So something good for code blocks, would just be a content element that actually only contains the code. Now there were some things that looked like this in the TER, but in my opinion they were too buggy and didn't really have a good workflow. So I decided to create on myself.
Although currently it's configured specifically for this website, I might just go and put it in the TER if anyone is interested.
Something about new articles?
Yes! Now that I'm finally more satisfied with my own blog, and I'm actually 'done' with it, I will continue to write new posts. During the time of not really publishing anything I have had tons of ideas, just no time to create something nice of it. That however, is about to change ;-)

Hey,
yes i'm interested in the "code highlighting plugin" you created.
Since you changed to t3blog as well, i hope it's gonna work with it ;-)

RE: code highlighting plugin
Hi Andreas,
I didn't have the time or motivation yet to completely finish it. Now that you've given me some (motivation), ill try to post it on the Forge as a new project somewhere this week.
Since it's something that was first only used on my own blog I didn't bother configurations etc, so all nicely hard-coded ;-) Keep an eye on my blog, Ill announce it here :-)
Cheers
